Digipaks and Posters

When I showed my poster and digipak to the class I was told that I had a couple of key elements that needed changing.

On my poster:

- Had to add Twitter, Facebook and Website info

On my digipak:

- Change the spines to the other way as they were upside down

- Add on Sony BMG copyright info

- Add Twitter and Facebook logos

In todays lesson I mentioned to my teacher how I felt about the fact my poster and digipak dont have anything in common with eachother. So, she gave me the idea of having a limited edition poster and digipak! I think this is a really good idea as I will be able to do both of my ideas. However, this means that I have twice the amount of work to do. Another idea that we had was to incorporate in our slogan: "sleep all day, party all night". To do this, I am going to have a day poster and digipak - white background with bright colours and a night poster and digipak - black background with bright colours. Both will have the same kind of design so that people know they are related.

Poster

Here is my poster that will advertise DJ DES. I am really happy with this poster and I think that it fits in with the feel that we wanted. I now however feel like I should change my digipak to match the poster as people might not know that we are promoting the same artist.

Today Daisy and I thought it would be a good idea to go and re-shoot the ending "bed animation" as we wanted it to actually look like DJ DES was getting back into bed. This re-shoot was an amazing success as we managed to finish it just ten minutes! We went back to school and I made the photo animation and it looks really good.

Our teacher Miss Whittaker thought it would be a good idea to actually see DJ DES dj-ing but we was finding it very difficult to find a DJ that would let us use their decs. So instead I thought it would be a good idea to use our music department as they have a recording booth. Me, Daisy and Sarah stayed after school to shoot this and it looks really good. Hopefully now I will be able to make it look as best as it can in final cut! I did start to edit it in but am not fully happy with it yet.

Today I also finished my poster and digipak, well so I thought I had. I had finished my digipak so had moved onto my poster when I found a really cool effect so wanted to use that in my digipak also so they look the same. I am now nearly finished my digipak but have just got to put the final touches to it.

Digipak

Here is a finished digipak that I am quite pleased with however, im not sure if I like the back. I will keep playing around in photoshop until I am happy!

Today we decided that it would be a good idea to take some photographs of DJ DES so we can use them on our digipaks. We decided to take the photos using the green screen so it would be easy to cut out the background. The photoshoot went really well! Here are my favourite pictures that I plan to use on my digipak and promotional poster:

In todays lesson we decided to focus on editing the footage we already had. I started to add lots more split screens and was messing around with all the different effects again. The section of the music video I decided to focus on was the footage of the dancing feet. Miss Whittaker gave me the idea of having the feet keep multiplying to the beat of the music. This worked amazingly well! It is my favourite part of the music video as it is very colourful which is how we wanted it to be.

Digipak

Here is the start of my digipak design. However at this current time I do not have any images of DJ DES to put on it. This is just a mock up of my digipak and plan to change it as I dont really like it.

Here is the same effect as before but this time I changed the background colour. We used this towards the end of our music video because we feel it builds the pace and makes the ending stronger.

Journal: 29-01-2012

On Friday night Daisy and I went to film the sun setting but yet again as we got there, there was a massive cloud in the way of the sun! We stayed there for a little while anyway but it didnt move, so I said that I would try both yesterday and today however the sun has not been out. This has meant that I have not been able to get the footage that I needed for the beginning of the music video. I will keep attempting to do this and hopefully soon it will work!

Last night, I attempted to film the sunset. However, this did not go to plan! As soon as I got outside the sun set so fast my footage wasn't long enough to make into a time-lapse. We plan to film this again tonight and go outside a lot earlier and film for longer. Above is the video I started to film yesterday. I really like the shot so I will shoot here again tonight. Hopefully it will work!

To make sure we get out at the right time we decided to look up when the sun sets so we dont miss it. Here is what we found out:

Here is an example of the kind of effects I have started to add into the music video. I came across this effect when I was looking around in Final Cut Pro. I think this effect looks very retro and works really well with the look we want to portray.

Feedback

Here is the feedback from we got from the first showing of our music video to the class.

6/6 said that it definitely had potential and 1/6 said why isnt it on MTV already???

I was very happy with this because we only had just finished our first draft of the music video because we changed our idea at the last minute! I am now going to edit the video a lot more to make it exactly how we want it.

The elements that work:

• Good editing
• Good effects - could add more!
• The dancing
• Nice shoes and props
• Lips
• Animations
• Split screens
• Good make up
• Split screens when getting ready
• The ballet dancing

Elements that need developing:

• Bit too short
• Clearer cuts
• Some shots are too long
• Writing on the mirror
• More split screens
• Clothing on bed sequence repeated once too many

Overall I am very happy with the feedback we gained from our class and teacher and I will put all the corrections into place.

First Attempt of our Music Video

Here is the first attempt at editing all of our music video together. We plan to show this to our class and get feedback on elements of our video that work and elements that need improving. I am really happy with how our video is looking as I think it fits into the codes and conventions of a Dance music video and is how we pictured it to be.

Picture Animations

Here are the picture animations we created that we have edited into our music video. These turned out to be very successful and look really good with the rest of our footage. The reason we decided to do these animations is because we thought it would add an exciting element to our video and we wanted to try our new ways of creating a video instead of just using a normal video camera.

Projections

At the end of our music video we want to do a projection of one of the photos above and have DJ DES jump infront of it. At the moment we think that the photos that say "DES" will be a lot better as they are colourful and for the obvious reason they say "DES". However, we havent really done projections before so we are going to see which photo looks best.

Typography

We decided that we wanted to have some of the lyrics appear throughout our music video so we had to find a font that we liked. Below is a font called "Touching Letters" that we found from the website DaFont. We think this font really fits in with the style of our music video and are really happy with how it looks.
